Each week your child will bring home a maths homework activity organised by their maths teacher. However, in some cases homework is not set or pupils will lose their homework sheet by the time they get home. In this case we have set up the Bacton Middle Optional Maths homework set.
These sheets can be completed at home, for the correct week, printed off and brought into school for Teachers to accept for their homework. It is also possible for these sheets to be completed at home on a pc and they can be emailed directly to s.ewing@bcms.suffolk.org.uk. The email should clearly state which teacher the homework should be forward to and the answers should be attached as a word document or on the question sheet.
These sheets are appropriate to be completed and sent in when:-
Homework has been lost by the pupil. |
The original homework set by the teacher |
The normal class teacher has been absent and homework was not set. |
|
Changes to the school day have resulted in lessons being changed and homework not being set. |

· You may wish to give your child some help with reading the instructions. This is a maths task, not a reading test!
· Try to make the activities enjoyable. We want children to learn maths well and to succeed in the subject. They are more likely to do this if you give them plenty of encouragement and make it fun!
· If the activity is taking too long, leave it at a suitable point. It is more important that the children have a go than that they struggle on for hours. 20 to 30mins is a suitable amount of time for a homework task.
· Do send back to school any drawings, comments or results which are appropriate to the activity. We shall discuss the homework in class, and what the children have shared at home will inform what we do in the lesson.
Research shows that the most important factor in children’s educational success is the home. By sharing a short maths activity with your child each week you are participating in their education, valuing what they do at school and learning some maths together. You do not have to be a great mathematician to help – just a willing partner!
